Dear Members
One month down, 11 to go!! This is the month of Looooooove. Although we are suppose to show love and respect to our loved ones every day, February just makes us more aware of that.
My twins are also turning 3 on the 20th! They are really developing into little people now. Some days they are very cute and other days they are very naughty and most days they are extremely busy!! I must say, raising multiple toddlers is challenging, and although they are sometimes a hand full, they are happy children! How do you keep a child happy? By giving them lots and lots and lots of love!!!

ACTIVITIES AND FUNCTIONS: We had our Welcome back function on 28 Jan at the Cornish Kettle Tea garden in Irene. It was really nice seeing and meeting new families and meeting up with some of the regular faces. Although heavy rains came down at 4pm, we still had a lovely time and the kids loved playing in the rain! (Guess who’s kids were the 1st ones to try out the stormy weather!!). Our next function is the Easter Egg Hunt on 14 April 2012. I will notify you of the time and venue, closer to the date. I have attached a calendar with all SAMBA’s events for the year!
We have resumed with our weekly tea parties on Tuesdays at the Crazy Cow Tea Garden in Centurion. Check your mails for further details.
Our first Expectant Parents Seminar will be on 03 March 2012. This is a must for all expecting parents. See invite attached. Each couple receives a seminar book and a lovely goodie bag filled with baby products! Our Raising Multiple Kids seminar has been scheduled for 19 May 2012. More info, time and venue will be confirmed closer to the seminar date. This seminar is specifically aimed at parents with multiple toddlers. If your babies are still very small, you are still welcome! The information will definitely be applicable to your kids at a later stage.

NEW BIRTHS: Congratulations to all our new babies. Please remember to inform me of your babies’ birth details as soon as possible so that we can notify everybody of your wonderful miracle! And remember send me your pictures!!
SAMARITAN: During October last year, we received a request for goods for a lady who was pregnant with twins, who also resided at her mom and lived off her mom’s pension. We received the following feedback from Benita Badenhorst who delivered the goods to this family (also see photo attached):
Ek wil net weereens baie dankie se vir die benodighede wat u geskenk het aan ons vir die tweeling Megan en Michaela. Daar het so baie intussen gebeur. Die mamma het mos by die ouma gebly en die mamma kry ‘n ongeskiktheids toelaag . Die ouma is skielik oorlede (hart) nou bly die mamma by familie en die familie wil haar kinders laat aanneem , maar mamma se welsynwerkster het vir haar gese om nie enige dokumente te teken nie (mense kan wreed wees ).
Ons het weer 2 mammas wat enige tyd van Februarie geboorte gee aan ‘n seuntjie en een ‘n dogtertjie. Indien u moontlik weer ‘n skenking wil maak, besoek ons FB blad Friends In Need.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS ON PRETORIA COMMITTEE: We have an opening as events co-ordinator. Annette Jordaan assisted us for a year and unfortunately her work load does not allow her to fulfil this position anymore. The events co-ordinator must organise the 3 remaining functions for the year for the Pretoria area. Please let me know if you think you are able to assist us.
I am also still looking for someone to take over my duties as Chairlady since my time also limits my functionality. This person must preferably be a stay-home mom or working part-time only. This person must love communicating with people and must have a passion to assist moms who need advice. Let me know if you are interested in this position or if you want more information. The regional chairlady will also serve on the SAMBA national committee.
NATIONAL COMMITTEE: I would like to congratulate Alta-Marie Botha-Diedericks (PTA East) who has been appointed as SAMBA’s new national vice-chairlady! For those of you who don’t know, SAMBA has a national committee with a national chairlady (Izelle Jooste), a vice chairlady (Alta-Marie) and a steering committee. We have a position open on our national committee for the competitions portfolio. This is a fun and exciting position, so let me know if you are interested. This person must have a computer and access to e-mail and internet.

RENEWALS: Your membership is due for renewal every year. It is very important to send your proof of payment with your renewal form to myself or our secretary when you renew your membership. The expiry date appears on the back of your membership card. Once you have renewed, you will receive a new membership card with a new membership no. I will also send out a notification of when your membership is due for renewal. Please remember that we cannot trace your payment without a proof of payment. Membership fees are R180 per year per family. What a bargain!
UPDATE OF DETAILS: Please remember to inform me if your details have changed. That includes your physical address. Sometimes your area mom changes if you move to a different area.
OUR COMMITTEE: We have a wonderful committee who are always willing to assist you wherever we can. See document attached with the committee’s contact details. Each area has a support mom who will give you guidance and advice on multiple related queries. If you can’t get hold of your support mom, please let me know so that I can assist you.
DID YOU KNOW: The Legend of St. Valentine
The history of Valentine's Day--and the story of its patron saint--is shrouded in mystery. We do know that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and that St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. But who was Saint Valentine, and how did he become associated with this ancient rite?
The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons, where they were often beaten and tortured. According to one legend, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first "valentine" greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl--possibly his jailor's daughter--who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter signed "From your Valentine," an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories all emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic and--most importantly--romantic figure. By the Middle Ages, perhaps thanks to this reputation, Valentine would become one of the most popular saints in England and France.
