My
husband and I have 2 children and decided that 1 more would
be nice. I have been trying to fall pregnant since 1999 without
any luck. Last year my husband and I decided that invitro
would be the thing to do and we did it. After a few months
my pregnancy was confirmed and also the fact that triplets
were on the way. We were very excited and started planning
right from the start around the fact that 3 little ones were
going to need more, than just 1 baby. On 7 January 2004,
three little boys were born 7 weeks premature. It was the
most wonderful and beautiful experience to see that all three
of them were healthy and well. We named them Morne, Gustav
and Juan. For 5 weeks we visited the hospital until they
were big and strong enough to come home. It actually gave
us some time to get used to the idea of three babies and
all of their needs. When they came home we were prepared
to start our life with them and our other two children.
I was on maternity
leave for 2 months and had to go back to work in April 2004.
We are so blessed with three very sweet
and peaceful babies. Up to now it has not been necessary to
get any extra help. I am back at work now and my mother-in-law
looks after them during the day. So far so good in coping with
work and five kids. My husband is a wonderful support system
and helps whenever and where ever he can. He is as much part
of the children’s lives as I am.
We are keeping a
very strict routine – if one of the
triplets is hungry and it is feeding time we feed all of them.
All of them are bathed at the same time. We are making between
24 and 30 bottles a day depending on their needs. One should
have at least 4 sets of clothes for each child every day. It
is certainly not easy to dress them alike at all times but
we do try most of the time. Each of them has their own personality
and now I am even more aware of which one will take up more
of my time. The secret is to be organised and prepared for
them at all times. The two days a week washing days are over
for me. You have to wash clothes, blankets etc every day otherwise
you run short of clothes. The nappies and milk are a huge expense
but at the end of the day it is worth it. We take photo’s
daily as I believe that they are a gift from God which we must
treasure every moment of every day. I also believe that He
would not have given my husband and I the triplets if He did
not believe that we could provide for them. We hare having
triple the amount of fun every day
